Retro-S.H.E has been spotted on the streets, attracting many passer-bys to stop and google, while the trio enjoyed their role-play tremendously.
Before their concert, S.H.E worked hard at mastering the Karaoke-hits of the yester-years with the accompanying VCR (featuring themselves) in order to get immunised against the contents' comedy effects so as not to lose control and bursting out into laughter during their actual concert performance.
The Chinese Music scene Female Heavenly Group S.H.E has specially dedicated 3 Theme Parties for their upcoming 3rd World Tour Concert - [S.H.E Is The One - Love As One]. There will be a Pyjamas Party, Movies Party and a KTV Party. The KTV Party idea was proposed by the trio as they used to frequent the KTV to sing and enjoy the live atmosphere. As they always feel very happy at the KTV, the trio decided to bring such joys to the audiences during their concert. When they recalled the retro-style MTV they would see at the KTV; they hence, decided to join in the fun to film such retro-style VCR-MTVs for their concert too. They promised the fans that it will definitely be a fun and hilarious surprise.
The trio decided to imitate each of the young female idols of the yester-years - Li Bi Hua, Yang Lin and Cai Yi Hong*. Selina donned a long-sleeve blouse, buttoned all the way up her neck, with big shoulder paddings underneath. Her face was painted with 2 layers of foundation prior to drawing on a pair of thick eyebrows and shadowing done at the bridge of her nose to highlight it. 3 sets of fake hair fringes were pasted at her forehead to put her into character, as she acted a dejected little rich missy, pedalling on the swan-like boat across the pond and looking out afar from a suspension bridge in a melancholy mood. When she first pedalled out from the shores, she was moving in the wind's direction and had a smooth-sailing journey. However on her way back after filming, the wind was against her and regardless how hard Selina pedalled, the boat simple refused to budge. In the end, her legs were so worn out, she could only remain on the spot and wait for another boat to go to her rescue. The following day, Selina claimed that her legs suffered from the sore effects due to her lack of frequent exercise. During the filming break, Selina ran into the convenience store to purchase a drink despite her retro-make-up and dress. This in turn caused the staff from the store to keep whispering to each other, wondering "Who is she" initially. Nonetheless, Selina was still recognised despite the disguise.
Hebe with a "Farrah Fawcett" hair-do, was dressed in a long flowery skirt and knitted top. Her character was a poor village girl who arrived in Taipei to make a break. With only a suitcase and a coin box containing a few coins, she roamed the streets. As the idol she was imitating is "Fair Lady" - Yang Lin; to suit the sterotypical image of "Fair Ladies" of that generation, Hebe had to walk demurely, criss-crossing her legs. While filming along the main road in dated and rare costume, many passer-bys ended up passing remarks about her.
Meanwhile, Ella is casted as the bubbly, energetic sunshine idol. She emphasised that it is a must to showcase the renowned retro high-waisted bell bottoms and striped-shirt to bring out the flavours of the good old days. With her classic "semi Ping-Shan" puffy hairstyle, loud colourful eyeshadow, highlights on her nose and her own natural thick eyebrows, Ella was doing exaggerated jumps and runs around the garden. She even role-played the classic plot, playfully hiding before the tree when in her "high" mood, cheering the others on - "Come and catch me, come and catch me!" In her elated state of acting her very own retro MTV, Ella even added scenes to it. While filming the original scene of giving chase to the thief that stole her bicycle, Ella playfully insisted on adding additional hilarious sub-plots of being kicked aside and even rolled a few rounds on the ground.
A break-through from their usual images, S.H.E enjoyed tremendous fun fufilling their wishes to act their very own retro MTV, and was very high. In response to such a rare opportunity, Selina joked, "In the past, idols do not have lip gloss, it is really tough for them. It is my first attempt to outline my lips directly with a lipstick while doing my make-up. Nonetheless, it is very fun. But while filming, I had to repeat actions of cupping my face, resting my chin on my hands to act dejected, I nearly burst out laughing a few times." Hebe added, "It is tough playing a 'Fair Lady'. One has to maintain graceful postures and expressions. I'm grateful I only need to do it for a day." On the other hand, Ella said jokingly, "I had to show exaggerated expressions and funny gestures, running around in the park while filming. It really felt as if we have travelled back in time to the 60s and 70s. Furthermore, while riding on my bicycle along the road, I waved warmly and greeted the drivers and passer-bys whom I passed. Everyone was surprised to see me; the confused expression on their faces is really interesting."
Such exciting and hilarious retro MTVs are only screened during S.H.E's actual performance for the [S.H.E Is The One - Love As One World Tour Concert]. Meanwhile S.H.E feared that they would end up bursting into laughter, watching themselves on the VCR and could not sing properly. Thus, they decided to watch their own productions to their fill before the concert on 16 and 17 October. They hope by then they would be totally immune to the hilarious scenes and not lose control to laugh during their performance.
